New Cycle, ( 2021-2026 ) by Adaya Godlevsky, is an artistic journey based on a series of menstrual-blood drawings created over the past four years, as part of a personal inquiry into and with the maturing female body and fertility. The visual works, produced monthly using menstrual blood stains and pencils, function as graphic scores and a source of inspiration for performance and for a unique musical composition for harp, voice, and electronics. A New Cycle accompanies the artist’s passage into womanhood at the age of fifty, raising incisive questions about the body, fertility, creativity, and the cultural and social perceptions surrounding the place of the fertile, creating woman.
